Give Them the Space to Create
Kids don’t need perfect crafts. They need space to create.
So often we think we need to plan every step of a craft for kids. I’m guilty of it too. Cut this. Glue that. Follow these directions.
But sometimes I catch myself and slow down.
Give them the music. Give them the space. Give them a pile of random supplies… and let them create.
Because this isn’t just about making something cute. When kids sit down with materials and figure it out as they go, so much is happening underneath the surface.
They’re turning their ideas into something real. Problem solving when something doesn’t work. Trying a new approach when their first plan changes. Making choices about colors and shapes and design. Sticking with something when it feels tricky. And at the end, feeling genuinely proud of something that came completely from their imagination.
The goal isn’t a Pinterest-worthy finished product. The goal is a child who trusts their own ideas.
And honestly, one of my favorite things is when a kid finishes something and immediately starts explaining the story behind it. Not because anyone asked. Just because they’re so excited about what they made and they want someone to know.
That’s the good stuff. That’s what matters.
