🚨 Non-negotiables

  1. Kids stay with their group. Not into the activity? Find something else in the space — but stay.
  2. Bathroom + water bottles BEFORE outside. Whole group. Nobody goes back alone.
  3. Reset before moving. Give every kid a job. Make it fun. Staff cleans WITH kids.
  4. Close the door. Group in a room = door closed.
  5. Outdoor safety. Stay together, parking lot, no running off. Headcount out + in.

💛 How we show up

You set the temperature

Be the calmest person in the room. When you're regulated, they regulate.

Be IN the play

  • Fairy houses — hands in the mud
  • Barbies — you have one, she has a name
  • Craft bar — your project is on the table
  • Foam pit — you're jumping in

Kid struggling?

Do: Get low. "I see you're frustrated." Two choices.
Don't: Yell. Threaten. Shame. Force.

Don't want to do it?

Say: "That's okay. Bubbles or football? But we stay out here together."

Big feelings?

Say: "Tough moment. I'm right here."

Cleanup

"You're marker duty, I'm sweeper. Beat 30? Go!"

🔧 What if...?

Kid won't stop crying
Sit with them. "I'm right here." Don't rush to fix. If it continues 10+ min, call Nicole. Don't isolate the child.
Kid hits another kid
Separate calmly. Tend to the hurt child first. Then: "I can see you're really upset. Hitting isn't safe. Let's take a breath together." Don't shame. Don't lecture in front of the group.
Parent arrives early
Sign out the child. Let the group know: "Max's mom is here — let's say bye!" Don't release without checking the pickup list.
Rain starts mid-outdoor
Bring group inside calmly. Move to craft bar or turf stations. If last block of the day, movie + popcorn is the backup.
Kid refuses to stay with group
"I hear you. You don't have to love this activity, but you stay with us. What can you do in this space?" Two choices. If they keep running, one staff stays with them while the other leads the group.
Two kids in conflict
Get low. Hear both sides. "You both feel strongly about this. Let's figure it out." No blame. No taking sides. Help them solve it together.

🌧️ Rainy day backup plan
